|taxon=Trimezia martinicensis |image=Trimezia martinicensis.jpg |image_caption=Naturalized in Malaysia |authority=(Jacq.) Herb.[1] }}Trimezia martinicensis is a species of bulbous plant in the family Iridaceae. Originally from South America and the West Indies, it is now widely naturalized throughout the tropics.[1][2] Common names include Martinique trimezia,[3] yellow walking iris[4] and forenoon yellow flag.[5]{{anchor|Distinction}} Distinction from Trimezia steyermarkiiTrimezia martinicensis is closely related to T. steyermarkii,{{sfn|ps=|Innes|1985|p=378}} with which it has been widely confused.[6] Clive Innes describes T. martinicensis as having a brown mark at the base of each outer tepal, whereas T. steyermarkii has brownish-purple bands.{{sfn|ps=|Innes|1985|pp=377–378}} In Kubitzki & Huber (1998), the flowers of T. martinicensis are shown as opening less widely than those of T. steyermarkii. The inner tepals of both species are S-shaped in cross-section; those of T. martinicensis are more-or-less upright (Innes describes them as "folded inwards"{{sfn|Innes|1985|p=377}}), whereas those of T. steyermarkii bend outwards into a more elongated shape so that the top of the S is not visible from above.[7] A diagnostic feature is that the style crests of T. martinicensis are short, whereas those of T. steyermarkii are longer,[7] about {{convert|3|-|4|mm|in|abbr=on|2}} long, comparable in length to its anthers, which are about {{convert|4|mm|in|abbr=on|2}} long.[8] Another difference is that the leaves of T. martinicensis are narrower, only about {{convert|1.3|cm|in|abbr=on|1}} wide, whereas those of T. steyermarkii are {{convert|2.5|-|3.4|cm|in|abbr=on|1}} wide.[9]{{Commons category}}References1. ^1 {{Citation |title=Trimezia martinicensis|work=World Checklist of Selected Plant Families |publisher=Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew |url=http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/namedetail.do?name_id=325343 |accessdate=2012-04-27}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q7842228}}2. ^{{Citation |last=Innes |first=Clive |year=1985 |title=The World of Iridaceae |publication-place=Ashington, UK |publisher=Holly Gate International |isbn=978-0-948236-01-3 }}, p. 377 3. ^{{PLANTS|id=TRMA6|taxon=Trimezia martinicensis|accessdate=15 December 2015}} 4. ^University of North Florida 5. ^{{Citation |last=Henderson |first=M.R. |year=1961 |title=Common Malaysian Wildflowers |publication-place=London, etc. |publisher=Longman }}, p. 57 6. ^{{Citation |title=Trimezia |publisher=Pacific Bulb Society |url=http://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/Trimezia |accessdate=2012-04-27 |archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/67SNxW3Hu |archivedate=2012-04-27 }} 7. ^1 {{Citation |year=1998 |editor-last=Kubitzki |editor-first=Klaus |editor2-last=Huber |editor2-first=Herbert |title=The Families and Genera of Vascular Plants : Volume III, Flowering Plants Monocotyledons : Lilianae (except Orchidaceae) |publication-place=Berlin, etc. |publisher=Springer-Verlag |isbn=978-3-540-64060-8 |lastauthoramp=yes }}, [https://books.google.com/books?id=FyPVYzL76sMC&pg=PA304&lpg=PA304 p. 304] 8. ^{{Citation |editor1-last=Stevens |editor1-first=W.D. |editor2-last=Ulloa Ulloa |editor2-first=Carmen |editor3-last=Pool |editor3-first=Amy |editor4-last=Montiel |editor4-first=Olga Martha |year=2001 |title=Flore de Nicaragua, Vol. 2 |journal=Missouri Bot.
