Porpoise) is a class of canoe-sterned (or 'double-ended') yacht designed by Knud Reimers. The design dates from the early 1930s (1933 from a majority of sources; No. 1, Aibe was built the next year for Bengt Kinde).[1] The Tumlare is {{convert|8.30|m}} overall;[2] the design was strongly endorsed as a 'very advanced type' by Uffa Fox who was especially interested in the composite method of construction employed, with metal frames interspersed between the timber ones.[3] The class became popular worldwide. Examples are to be found all round the Baltic, in the UK, North America and Australia.[4] The total number built is given variously from 'At least 200'[5] to 'Some 600',[6] with '660' given in Vanessa Bird's 'Classic Classes'.[3] As standard, the class carries {{convert|20|m2}} of sail,[5][7] however a variant known as the Hocco is a class with the same hull but {{convert|28|m2}} of sail, conceived for sailing on inland waters, specifically Lake Geneva.[8] The larger sister class, the 32' Large Tumlare, Stortumlare, or 'Albatross' class is a related design.[9] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?13680-AIBE-S1-TUMLAREN|title=AIBE, S1 TUMLAREN|work=woodenboat.com |accessdate= 4 February 2018}} 2. ^{{cite |last1=Bremberg |first1=Fred |last2=Seth |first2=Staffan |title=Segelbåtstyper: kortfattade beskrivningar med igenkänningstecken och dimensionsuppgifter för svenska segelbåtar |edition=2nd revised |year=1965 |publisher=Aldus/Bonnier |place=Stockholm|language=sv| page=51 }} 3. ^1 {{cite book|title= Classic Classes |author=Vanessa Bird|page = 150}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tummelisa157.dinstudio.se/|title=Startsidan/Home - Reimers Tumlaren|work=Reimers Tumlaren|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20131004213950/http://www.tummelisa157.dinstudio.se/|archivedate=2013-10-04|df=}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=6505|title=TUMLAREN sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com|work=sailboatdata.com|accessdate= 4 February 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tumlare.org.uk/history.html|title=Tumlare Owners Group|work=tumlare.org.uk|accessdate= 4 February 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.classicboatclasses.co.uk/#/tumlaren/4563508404|title=HOME - Classic Boat Classes: Tumlaren|work=classicboatclasses.co.uk|accessdate= 30 May 2018}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.woodenboat.com.au/register/listing.asp?boatid=14477|title=Celeste - Wooden Boat|work=woodenboat.com.au|accessdate= 4 February 2018}} 3 : 1930s sailing yachts|Sailboat type designs by Swedish designers|Keelboats |
