Instead of typing the source code, you visually drag blocks of code and snap them together. The visual design and principles are based on the free Scratch, just like Hopscotch and Snap!. Tynker is based on HTML5 and JavaScript, and can be used in the browser without plugins, as well as on tablets and smartphones.[1] Another difference is that Scratch is a free open source project, while Tynker is a commercial product, aimed at selling courses.[2] HistoryThe Tynker company was founded in 2012 in Mountain View, California, United States.[3] With funds raised from angel and institutional investors, Tynker for Schools was launched April 2013, with Tynker for Home the year after.[4] Mobile ApplicationsIn July 2014 Tynker was released for iPad and Android[5] The projects can be accessed from both the web and the tablet and used on either platform. (As of 28 February 2015, the two platforms are not yet 100% compatible, and certain features are only available on one of the platforms.)
