Urjanet is an energy data[1] company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company develops and markets a form of big data coming from utilities. Urjanet offers data-as-a-service products that enable organizations to understand their energy usage, which is fundamental to reducing energy costs and carbon emissions. The company was founded in 2009 by Sanjoy Malik at the Georgia Tech VentureLab. After Malik secured a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, Urjanet graduated to the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC),[2] then in 2013 after successfully raising $6.5 million in venture capital[3] moved to the company's current location in Midtown Atlanta. The company is funded with support from the Georgia Research Alliance, Imlay Investment, Grotech Ventures,[4] Correlation Ventures, and Osage Venture Partners.

Products

Urjanet has completely automated the process of a utility bill audit by seamlessly collecting data from a variety of disparate utilities across North America and then converting this data into a standardized and normalized format.[5] This energy data is then delivered in near real-time to accounting, energy management, procurement, sustainability, and business intelligence systems to help better understand, analyze, and optimize energy utilization. Urjanet is integrated with the EnergyStar Portfolio Manager,[6] an online tool that helps companies to measure and track energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Customers

Urjanet maintains partnerships with utility bill payment firms, and has a growing list of customers from the energy management services and energy management software providers who resell Urjanet's utility data to their customers.

Media Coverage

Urjanet presented at The Wall Street Journal's 2014 ECO:nomics conference on "The Next Big Thing".[7] Environmental Leader[8] named Urjanet a Top Product of the Year for 2014. Venture Atlanta[9] named Urjanet one of The Top 5 Atlanta Startups to Watch in 2014, and to the list of Atlanta's Energy Management All Stars.[10] Urjanet also participated in the Department of Energy 2014 Energy Datapalooza.[11]
