It was the fourteenth of nineteen Block IIA GPS satellites to be launched. USA-96 was launched at 17:04:00 UTC on 26 October 1993, atop a Delta II carrier rocket, flight number D223, flying in the 7925-9.5 configuration.[2] The launch took place from Launch Complex 17B at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station,[3] and placed USA-96 into a transfer orbit. The satellite raised itself into medium Earth orbit using a Star-37XFP apogee motor.[4] On 25 November 1993, USA-96 was in an orbit with a perigee of {{convert|20104|km}}, an apogee of {{convert|20260|km}}, a period of 717.96 minutes, and 55 degrees of inclination to the equator.[5] It broadcast the PRN 04 signal, and operated in slot 4 of plane D of the GPS constellation.[6] The satellite has a mass of {{convert|1816|kg}}. It had a design life of 7.5 years,[4] and is still in service, being temporarily removed on 2 November 2015 from the GPS constellation until March 2018.[7] Since 20 March 2018 the satellite is operational again and is broadcasting the PRN 18 signal, operating in slot 6 of Plane D.[8] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1993-068A|title=Navstar 2A-14|publisher=US National Space Science Data Center|accessdate=10 July 2012}} {{Portal|Spaceflight}}{{GPS satellites}}{{Orbital launches in 1993}}{{US-spacecraft-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/launchlog.txt|title=Launch Log|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|accessdate=10 July 2012}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/lvdb/list2.html|title=Launch List|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|work=Launch Vehicle Database|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|accessdate=10 July 2012}} 4. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web|url=http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/navstar-2a.htm|title=GPS-2A (Navstar-2A)|first=Gunter|last=Krebs|work=Gunter's Space Page|accessdate=10 July 2012}} 5. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/satcat.txt|title=Satellite Catalog|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|accessdate=10 July 2012}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.astronautix.com/project/navstar.htm|title=Navstar|publisher=Encyclopedia Astronautica|first=Mark|last=Wade|accessdate=10 July 2012}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?Do=gpsShowNanu&num=2015091|title=Notice Advisory to GPS Users|publisher=NAVCEN|accessdate=7 November 2015}} 8. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?Do=gpsShowNanu&num=2018015|title=Notice Advisory to GPS Users|website=www.navcen.uscg.gov|access-date=2018-03-31}} 3 : Spacecraft launched in 1993|GPS satellites|USA satellites |
