The team's first international competition was the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, where it finished in first place after defeating Team Canada in the final.[1] During the time period referenced here, it was known as "Team USA". A trademark challenge from the United States Olympic Committee led to the change to the name "USA Roller Derby" after the team's last international appearance. USA Roller Derby is the most successful international roller derby team, having won all three Roller Derby World Cups. 2011 Roller Derby World CupThe team then known as "Team USA"'s first international action took place December 1 through 4, 2011, at the premiere Roller Derby World Cup, held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The U.S., one of 13 nations competing, began group play at the tournament in Group C, along with teams representing New Zealand and Scotland.[6] The U.S. won both of its group bouts, defeating New Zealand 377 to 8 on the first day of the tournament,[7] and Scotland on the second day, 435 to 1.[8] On the night of the tournament's first day, the USA staged an exhibition bout, dividing its large roster into two teams nicknamed the Stars and the Stripes.[9] By virtue of the large point spread for the U.S. in their group bouts, the team was seeded first overall for the remainder of the tournament,[8] and earned a bye past the first elimination round. In the quarter finals, the U.S. faced New Zealand for the second time, winning this time by a score of 437 to 8.[10] In the semi final, the U.S. defeated Team Australia 532 to 4, in what was both the highest score and largest margin of victory for the entire tournament.[11] In the final of the tournament, the U.S. defeated Team Canada 336 to 33.[1] Joy Collision was voted MVP for the U.S. at the World Cup.[12] References1. ^1 {{cite web|title=U.S. pummels Canada to win roller derby title|url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/12/04/roller-derby-world-cup.html?cmp=rss|publisher=Canadian Broadcasting Corporation|accessdate=7 December 2011|date=4 December 2011}} {{National roller derby teams}}{{National sports teams of the United States}}2. ^{{cite web|last1=Deadwards|first1=Lisa|title=USA Roller Derby 2017 Charter & Updates|url=http://www.derbycentral.net/2016/10/usa-roller-derby-2017-charter-updates/|publisher=Derby Central|accessdate=6 October 2016|date=5 October 2016}} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Tallionis|first=Lex|title=2013-14 Team USA Roster Revealed|url=http://www.derbynews.net/2013/10/2013_14_team_usa_roster_revealed|accessdate=6 October 2016|newspaper=Derby News Network|date=15 October 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|first=MercyLess|title=DNN: World Cup Tryouts Continue|url=http://derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/04/world_cup_team_usa_tryouts_continue|work=Derby News Network|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=8 December 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web|first=Justice Feelgood Marshall|title=Team USA Announces 28-Skater Roster|url=http://derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/08/team_usa_announces_28_skater_roster|work=Derby News Network|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=7 December 2011|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111001204851/http://derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/08/team_usa_announces_28_skater_roster|archivedate=1 October 2011|df=}} 6. ^{{cite web|last=Reynolds|first=Hurt|title=Roller Derby World Cup Groups Set|url=http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/11/roller_derby_world_cup_groups_set|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=19 November 2011}} 7. ^{{cite web|last=Marshall|first=Justice Feelgood|title=World Cup: USA Hammers New Zealand, 377-8|url=http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/12/world_cup_usa_hammers_new_zealand_377_8|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=1 December 2011}} 8. ^1 {{cite web|last=Talionis|first=Lex|title=World Cup: USA Buries Scotland, 435-1|url=http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/12/world_cup_usa_buries_scotland_435_1|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=2 December 2011|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120429002913/http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/12/world_cup_usa_buries_scotland_435_1|archivedate=29 April 2012|df=}} 9. ^{{cite news|last=Derby Nerd|title=Going Global: First Roller Derby World Cup Thrills|url=http://derbynerd.wordpress.com/2011/12/09/going-global-first-roller-derby-world-cup-thrills/|accessdate=1 October 2012|newspaper=The Derby Nerd|date=9 December 2011}} 10. ^{{cite web|last=Marshall|first=Justice Feelgood|title=World Cup: (1) USA Flattens (9) New Zealand, 470-8|url=http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/12/world_cup_1_usa_flattens_9_new_zealand_470_8|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=3 December 2011}} 11. ^{{cite web|last=Marshall|first=Justice Feelgood|title=World Cup Semifinal: (1) USA Dominates (4) Australia, 532-4|url=http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2011/12/world_cup_semifinal_1_usa_dominates_4_australia_532_4|publisher=Derby News Network|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=4 December 2011}} 12. ^{{cite web|last=titmouse|title=USA win first ever Roller Derby World Cup!|url=http://www.torontorollerderby.com/blog/?p=718|publisher=Toronto Roller Derby|accessdate=1 October 2012|date=6 December 2011}} 5 : National roller derby teams|Women's national sports teams of the United States|Roller derby in the United States|2011 establishments in the United States|Sports clubs established in 2011 |
