The area was visited by early 19th century sealers operating on nearby Byers Peninsula and Cape Shirreff. The feature is named after the settlement of Vodoley in northern Bulgaria. LocationThe rock is located at {{coord|62|31|13|S|60|51|35|W|display=inline, title}} which is {{convert|1.2|km|mi|abbr=on}}west-southwest of Dreyfus Point, {{convert|1.8|km|mi|abbr=on}} northwest of Scesa Point and {{convert|4.75|km|mi|abbr=on}} northeast of Frederick Rocks (Bulgarian mapping in 2005 and 2009).
