It was built in 1911 and dedicated in 1913 with funding from Edgerton Watts. The building includes Stick/Eastlake architecture. The library was closed in 1968 but reopened in 1972. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.[1][2] It was the first township library, and perhaps the smallest library, and in perhaps the smallest community to have a library, in the state of North Dakota.[3] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{Authority control}}{{NorthDakota-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Watts Free Library|publisher=City of Leonard|url=http://www.leonardnd.com/Watts-Free-Library.html}} 3. ^{{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=89002304}} |title=National Register of Historic Places Registration: Watts Free Library |author=Lauren McCroskey |date=November 21, 1989 |publisher=National Park Service}} and {{NRHP url|id=89002304|title=accompanying photos|photos=y}} 6 : Library buildings completed in 1911|Libraries on the National Register of Historic Places in North Dakota|Queen Anne architecture in North Dakota|Buildings and structures in Cass County, North Dakota|1911 establishments in North Dakota|National Register of Historic Places in Cass County, North Dakota |
