The series aired on CBS as part of the 2013–14 American television season, and premiered on September 30, 2013.[1][2][3] After the airing of two episodes, which performed poorly, CBS announced that the series had been cancelled on October 9, 2013.[4][5] PremiseAfter Carter is left at the altar by his bride, he moves into a short-term rental complex, where he forms a friendship with three divorced older men. Cast
Development and productionOn July 10, 2012, it was announced that CBS had picked up Rob Greenberg's single-camera comedy, then called Ex-Men, as the first pilot order of the 2013–14 season.[6] The show, which is written, directed and executively produced by Greenberg, centers on a young man "learning the ways of the world from the older and more experienced men in his short-term rental complex."[6] Dominic Patten from Deadline Hollywood reported that We Are Men had been around for a few years, before it was picked up.[6] Chris Smith was cast as Carter Thomas, the young man who befriends a group of divorced men, while Kal Penn was cast as Gil Bartis.[7] On August 15, 2012, it was announced that Tony Shalhoub would play Frank, who is "a four-time divorcé who still fancies himself a ladies man".[7] Shortly after, Australian actress Rebecca Breeds joined the cast as Frank's daughter.[8] Filming of the pilot episode was pushed back to January 2013, after casting of the fourth male lead stalled. The role of Stuart was eventually filled by Jerry O'Connell.[9]Episodes{{Episode table |background=#FCDC3B |overall= |title= |director= |writer= |airdate= |viewers= |country=U.S. |episodes={{Episode list|EpisodeNumber = 1 |Title = Pilot |DirectedBy = Rob Greenberg |WrittenBy = Rob Greenberg |OriginalAirDate = {{Start date|2013|9|30}} |Viewers = 6.61[10] |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 2 |Title = We Are Dognappers |DirectedBy = Adam Arkin |WrittenBy = Bob Daily |OriginalAirDate = {{Start date|2013|10|7}} |Viewers = 5.41[11] |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 3 |Title = We Are One Night Stands |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 4 |Title = We Are Learning to Swim |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 5 |Title = We Are Divorced Dads |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 6 |Title = We Are Gentlemen |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 7 |Title = We Are Angry |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 8 |Title = We Are Carpe Pontiac |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 9 |Title = We Are Franksgiving |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 10 |Title = We Are Stuart's Anniversary |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }}{{Episode list |EpisodeNumber = 11 |Title = We Are for the Tots |DirectedBy = |WrittenBy = |OriginalAirDate = UNAIRED |Viewers = |ShortSummary = |LineColor = FCDC3B }} }} Critical receptionWe Are Men was panned by critics. Metacritic gave the show an aggregate rating of 33/100; similarly Rotten Tomatoes currently has a rating of 4% (rotten) for the program.[12] Melissa Maers of Entertainment Weekly said that the show was "The male version of Sex and the City with more shirtless scenes (courtesy of Jerry O'Connell) and way less wit",[13] while The Hollywood Reporter was much more harsh, saying “‘We Are Men’ is about four single guys you wouldn't ever want to be around or be related to in any way … [it] made me feel stupid almost immediately and then bitter that I'd wasted the time.”[14] The show failed to catch an audience and actually adversely affected other programming, especially the program 2 Broke Girls. The show got the lowest rating of any premiere on CBS and was axed after just two episodes.[15]References1. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2013/05/15/cbs-announces-2013-2014-primetime-schedule-659502/20130515cbs01/ |title=CBS Announces 2013-2014 Primetime Schedule |publisher=The Futon Critic|date=May 15, 2013|accessdate=May 18, 2013}} 2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/cbs-series-orders-mom-intelligence-crazy-ones-will-arnett-519502|title=CBS Orders Chuck Lorre's 'Mom,' Robin Williams' 'Crazy Ones,' Will Arnett Comedy, More |date=May 10, 2013|last=Rose|first=Lacey|last2=Goldberg|first2=Lesley|work=The Hollywood Reporter|accessdate=May 11, 2013}} 3. ^{{Cite web |url=http://tvline.com/2013/05/10/cbs-new-series-fall-2013-tv-shows-crazy-ones/ |title=Fall TV Scoop: CBS Picks Up Six Series, Including Sarah Michelle Gellar's Crazy Comedy, Josh Holloway's Intelligence and Chuck Lorre's Mom|date=May 10, 2013|last=Ausiello|first=Michael |publisher=TVLine|accessdate=May 11, 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://variety.com/2013/tv/news/cbs-cancels-we-are-men-with-mike-and-molly-returning-1200709788/|title=CBS Cancels ‘We Are Men,’ with ‘Mike and Molly’ Returning|last=Weisman|first=Jon|work=Variety|date=October 9, 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/10/09/we-are-men-cancelled-by-cbs-after-2-episodes-mike-molly-to-return-in-november/208032/|title='We Are Men' Cancelled By CBS After 2 Episodes; 'Mike & Molly' To Return In November|last=Seidman|first=Robert|work=TV by the Numbers|date=October 9, 2013}} 6. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.deadline.com/2012/07/cbs-snags-rob-greenberg-pilot-as-first-order-of-201314-season/|title=CBS Snags Rob Greenberg Pilot As First Order Of 2013-14 Season|last=Patten|first=Dominic|date=July 10, 2012|website=Deadline Hollywood|accessdate=October 5, 2013}} 7. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://tvline.com/2012/08/15/tony-shalhoub-ex-men-cbs/|title=Exclusive Pilot Scoop: Emmy Winner Tony Shalhoub Joins CBS' Rob Greenberg Comedy|last=Ausiello|first=Michael|author2=Masters, Megan |date=August 15, 2012|publisher=TV Line|accessdate=October 5, 2013}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/australian-rebecca-breeds-to-co-star-in-cbs-rob-greenberg-comedy-pilot/|title=Australian Rebecca Breeds To Co-Star In CBS' Rob Greenberg Comedy Pilot|website=Deadline Hollywood|last=Andreeva|first=Nellie|date=August 31, 2012|accessdate=October 5, 2013}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.deadline.com/2013/01/jerry-oconnell-set-as-a-lead-in-cbs-rob-greenberg-comedy-pilot/|title=Jerry O’Connell Set As A Lead In CBS’ Rob Greenberg Comedy Pilot|last=Andreeva|first=Nellie|date=January 2, 2013|website=Deadline Hollywood|accessdate=October 5, 2013}} 10. ^{{cite web|url=http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/10/01/monday-final-tv-ratings-the-voice-adjusted-up-the-blacklist-iheartradio-music-festival-adjusted-down/206231/|title=Monday Final TV Ratings: 'The Voice' Adjusted Up; 'The Blacklist' & 'iHeartRadio Music Festival' Adjusted Down|last=Bibel|first=Sara|work=TV by the Numbers|date=October 1, 2013|accessdate=October 1, 2013}} 11. ^{{cite web|url=http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/10/08/monday-final-tv-ratings-the-voice-mom-how-i-met-your-mother-bones-2-broke-girls-adjusted-up-the-blacklist-dancing-with-the-stars-beauty-and-the-beast-castle/207510|title=Monday Final TV Ratings: 'The Voice', 'Mom', 'How I Met Your Mother', 'Bones', '2 Broke Girls' Adjusted Up; 'The Blacklist', 'Dancing With the Stars', 'Beauty and the Beast'& 'Castle' Adjusted Down|work=TV by the Numbers|last=Kondolojy|first=Amanda|date=October 8, 2013|accessdate=October 8, 2013}} 12. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/we-are-men/|title=We Are Men|publisher=|accessdate=25 March 2016}} 13. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.metacritic.com/tv/we-are-men/critic-reviews|title=Critic Reviews for We Are Men Season 1 - Metacritic|work=Metacritic|accessdate=25 March 2016}} 14. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/tv-reviews-we-are-men-634824 | work=The Hollywood Reporter | first=Tim | last=Goodman | title=We Are Men/Mom: TV Review | date=23 September 2013}} 15. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.deadline.com/2013/10/we-are-men-cancelled-cbs-schedule/|title=‘We Are Men’ Cancelled By CBS - Deadline|author=Nellie Andreeva|website=Deadline Hollywood|accessdate=25 March 2016}} External links
