West Paschim Vihar is a name proposed by some people for the part of Paschim Vihar on the west side of Outer Ring Road of West Delhi, India. It is not yet recognized by the MCD or the government bodies officially.

Paschim Vihar is an upmarket residential colony of West Delhi that comes under the Punjabi Bagh subzone.

This part comes under the Nangloi Jat Vihdan Sabha seat and currently the MLA is Dr. Bijender Singh (Indian National Congress). It consists of 2 municipal wards; Guru Harkishan Nagar, and Peera Garhi (which also includes the adjoint Peera Garhi village). This part falls under the Vidhan Sabha seat of Nangloi Jat unlike the east side which comes under the Shakurbasti seat.

The postal code is 110087 unlike the east side which has 110063. The post office is in Sunder Vihar. The MTNL Telephone Exchange for this part is also located in Sunder Vihar. The police stations for this part is in Mianwali Nagar.

A large portion of the population is Hindu and are Punjabis (Khatris, Aroras, Aggarwals) and Jats and rajput (Rathore).Guru Harkishan Nagar has a significant Sikh population. However the relocatement camps (No. 4 and No.5) and nearby villages of Nangloi, Mangolpuri, and Sultanpuri have considerable Muslim populations.

History

Settlements here started around the late 1970s and 1980s, thus this is a relatively old and green area. This part is majorly privately developed except the Group Housings (GH9, GH14, etc.), which are essentially DDA Flats.

Huge sects of land (over 7-70 acres each) were allotted by the DDA to private societies. These societies, then made roads (within their respective land) and erected other essential amenities by themselves and allotted plots to members. The kothis of the areas are in these colonies. Plot sizes here ranges from 164-500 square yards, with 200 being a common size. Post 2008, following a change in MCD rules, the concept of a builder floors here has really taken off, where these bungalows are being converted to 4-floor building in which different floors accommodate different families as against other bungalows which are one-family dwellings. The land developed by DDA has no such bungalows or builder floors.

Colonies

It covers various sublocalities, namely: State Bank Nagar, Sunder Vihar, Meera Bagh B-Block, Bhera Enclave, Mianwali Nagar, Guruharkishan Nagar, Inder Enclave, GHs, Paschim Enclave, Ekta Enclave, and some other societies and colonies. Often a sub-locality is referred by the name of the big colony in it. Like the area around Mianwali Nagar is referred so. Similarly for Sunder Vihar, Meera Bagh, Bhera Enclave,PASCHIM ENCLAVE and Guru Harkishan Nagar.

The property prices are in the range of Rs. 2,70,000 to 3,70,000 per square yard. Whereas apartments and builder floors have a rate of about Rs. 10000 - 15,000 per square foot.

After a change in MCD rules in 2008, a builder boom has followed. Old houses are broken down and new lavish 4-storey (+parking) kothis are being erected in all colonies. This has significantly increased the standard of living for the residents.

Surroundings

On its west periphery are Syed Nangloi, Jwalapuri, Relocatement Camp No. 4, 5, Ambica Vihar and Nihal Vihar. The eastern periphery of this part falls on the Outer Ring Road, northern periphery on Rohtak Road with Udyog Nagar on the other side. The southern periphery is marked by the Keshopur drain. Peera Garhi Village is on its north-western corner. On its south-west corner lies a huge Nihal Vihar District Park forming the lungs of the area.

Nearby residential areas of Paschim Vihar include Punjabi Bagh, Madipur, Paschim Puri, Tilak Nagar, Vikaspuri, Janak Puri, Keshopur, Peera Garhi,MIANWALI NAGAR, PASCHIM ENCLAVE, Nangloi and Rohini.

Connectivity

Road and bus connectivity

The area has excellent road and rail connectivity. On its northern edge runs the Rohtak Road (NH10), and the Outer Ring Road forms its eastern periphery. Both these roads are well maintained and are 6-8 lanes wide around the area. In this area, the outer ring road is maintained by the MCD and has a flyover at Peera Garhi Chowk and an Underpass and roundabout at Bhera Enclave/Sunder Vihar Crossing. Outer Ring Road also has several foot-over bridges with escalators. Similarly, the Rohtak Road is maintained by the PWD. Where outer ring road connects the area with much of the city, Rohtak Road connects it to the Centre and the state border.

Both these roads have a very high frequency of buses. Most of the buses that ply on these roads are DTC low-floors; AC and Non-AC.

Peera Garhi is the major intersection (Under Peera Garhi Flyover) between the Rohtak Road, and Outer Ring Road.

Interstate Buses going to Bahadurgarh, Hissar, and Rohtak also stop at the Peera Garhi stand.

Paschim Vihar has one bus depot at Peera Garhi and the Nangloi Bus Depot, SultanPuri Bus Depot, Mangolpuri Bus Depot and Keshopur Bus Depot are within a close reach.

Most of the bus routes passing through the area run on either Rohtak Road or Outer Ring Road. Others run on both, these are mainly those running on Rohtak Road but with terminal at Mangolpuri or Sultan Puri or those running on Outer Ring Road with terminal at Nangloi.

Route No. 567 runs from Nangloi and passes through A-6, Jwalaheri, and other blocks of the east side. Route No. 910 passes within this part via the Nangloi Sayed Road terminating at Nangloi Sayed and passing via Jwalaheri and other blocks of the east side.

Over 75 bus routes ply through the area. Bus routes that ply through the area are:

On Outer Ring Road - 741, 761, 879, 882, 883, 947, 947A, 969, 972, Madhuban Chowk Circular Sewa, Outer Mudrika (OMS)

On Rohtak Road - GL-91, 219, 231, 236, 236EXT, 254, 908, 914, 915, 915EXT, 918, 922-929, 929EXT, 929SLT, 931, 934, 935, 941, 942, 948, 949, 949A, 949EXT, 963, 966, 968, 976, 978, 980, 983, 991, 998, Najafgarh-Zakhira Circular Sewa

On both, other - 231, 910, 567, 568, 569, 569EXT, 761EXT, 808, 846, 849, 905, 907, 910, 937, 939, 969, 940, 943, 944, 947, 953, 954, 962, 966EXT

There are plenty of bus stops across the area. Peera Garhi, Mianwali Nagar, PASCHIM ENCLAVE and Inder Enclave bus stops on Rohtak Road serve the residents on this side. The Outer Ring Road also has Peera Garhi, Peera Garhi Depot, Sunder Apartments, Sunder Vihar, and Meera Bagh bus stands serving the residents of both the sides. There are also Bhera Enclave, Bhera Enclave GH14, Ram Mandir, GH12, Meera Bagh Market, Nihal Vihar, Ambica Vihar, and Nangloi Sayed bus stops within the area serving the residents of various colonies.

Several Gramin Sewa Routes are also allotted by the government to serve the area. However, these mostly run on routes other than the allotted ones. Their high frequency makes them a boon for the low-budget commuter but a bane for the traffic with drivers constantly flouting rules and creating menace on the road.

The areas is also well served by Cycle-rikshaws and Autorikshaws. More recently, Electric Rikshaws have also started plying which mostly operate on shared-fair basis seating 4 at a time.

Metro connectivity

Delhi Metro's Green Line (Line 5 - Mundka-Inderlok/Kirti Nagar) passes on the northern of the area, which joins to the Red (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) at Inderlok as well as the Blue line (Dwarka Sec 21 to Noida City Centre/Vaishali) at Kirti Nagar.

Line 5 is the first in Delhi Metro to run on standard gauge.

Peeragarhi Metro Station is the closest for most colonies and societies, However, for Inder Enclave Mianwali Nagar,PASCHIM ENCLAVE and Guru Harkishan Nagar, Udyog Nagar Metro Station is slightly closer.

Paschim Vihar will also benefit from Delhi Metro's Phase IV which will be completed in 2021. The colony will fall on the line that will run along Outer Ring Road in north and west Delhi. According to tentative plans, this metro rail line will run between Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in North Delhi and Sagarpur near Janak Puri West Delhi, passing through Madhuban Chowk (Rohini, Peeragarhi, Meera Bagh, Uttam Nagar and Dabri crossing.

Other modes of transport

In all parts cyclerikshaws and autorikshaws can be found easily.

Gramin Sewa Autos ply on Rohtak Road with 3 routes operating. One to Mangolpuri. One till Punjabi Bagh. And the third till Madipur via Jwalaheri.

Recently motor-powered low-height 4-seater rikshaws have also come up, but are relatively uncommon yet.

Amenities and facilities

The area has plenty of parks and greenery. Sunder Vihar has 2 grounds adjacent to the Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Guru Harkishan Nagar also has a very big park with a jogging track of about 1 km. On the south-west corner is the Nihal Vihar District Park acting as the lungs of the area.

The inner roads are well-laid although narrow, and thus Chaudhary Prem Sukh Marg, Nangloi Sayed Road and the road between Sunder Vihar and Meera Bagh frequently face traffics jams and have long read lights.

There are no significant problems of water and electricity in the area unlike many parts of the city. The only problem is poor lighting on most inner roads and streets.

There are plenty of Temples and Gurdwaras in different colonies.

Major schools on the side are St. Marks, St. Marks Girls, Shah International, GS Convent, Don Bosco, Manavsthali, Richmond Global, DAV Centenary, SS Mota Singh, Kendriya Vidyalaya.

The area has all basic utilities and stops of daily leisure. Bhera Enclave, Sunder Vihar, and Meera Bagh have plenty of retail shops, bakeries, salons, music centres, etc. Most of which are on the Nangloi Sayed Road and the road between Meera Bagh and Sunder Vihar. Sunder Vihar Market on Outer Ring Road also has plenty of shops. There are also plenty of home furnishing shops in National Market on Chaudhary Prem Sukh Marg. Radisson Blu, a 5-star hotel is also in Sunder Vihar on the Outer Ring Road overlooking the Bhera Enclave Underpass. The hotel also houses the D-Mall.

There are also few smaller hotels opened in kothis such as the Neptune Residency.
