It was consolidated to Alavus on 1 January 2013. It is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality had a population of {{formatnum:3122}} ({{date|2012-12-31}})[1] and covered an area of {{convert|309.66|km2}} of which {{convert|11.91|km2|abbr=on}} was water.[2] The population density was {{pop density|3122|297.75|km2|sqmi}}.
