William Davenport Adams (28 December 1851 in Brixton, London[1] – 26 July 1904 in Wandsworth, London) was an English journalist and author. Born in Brixton, London, he was the son of William Henry Davenport Adams, also a journalist and author. Educated at Merchant Taylors' School and Edinburgh University, he began newspaper work in 1870, working in Greenock and for the Nottingham Daily Guardian.[2] He became literary editor of The Globe in 1885, and was also well known as a dramatic critic. He published many collections of poetry, several books about books, and edited a Dictionary of English Literature (1877) and a Dictionary of the Drama (1899).
