Unionville is a small farmingrural town in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 8,117 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Unionville is located at {{coord|35|4|24|N|80|31|15|W|type:city}} (35.073239, -80.520922).[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of {{convert|26.2|sqmi|km2}}, of which, {{convert|26.2|sqmi|km2}} of it is land and {{convert|0.04|sqmi|km2}} of it (0.11%) is water. It is in the Foothills of the Uwharrie Mountains

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 4,797 people, 1,670 households, and 1,382 families residing in the town. The population density was 183.1 people per square mile (70.7/km²). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 65.5 per square mile (25.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.48% White, 2.23% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.48% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.71% of the population.

There were 1,670 households out of which 44.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.4% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.2% were non-families. 14.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.15.

In the town, the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.8% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $57,478, and the median income for a family was $62,736. Males had a median income of $40,145 versus $28,889 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,266. About 3.0% of families and 5.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.6% of those under age 18 and 15.6% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Currently, Unionville houses Piedmont High School, Piedmont Middle School, and Unionville Elementary School Porter Ridge Elementary School Porter Ridge Middle School Porter Ridge High School.
