The regiment was raised on 21 December 1984 by Lt Col Balram Singh Mehta at Ahmednagar with Vijayanta tanks but later equipped with T-72 tanks.[1] It first assignment however was on counter-insurgency duties in Jammu and Kashmir.[1] The cap badge of the unit is a sunburst with crossed lances and pennons. The regimental motto is inscribed on a circlet within the sunburst. Initially, the entire badge was made of white metal. This was later changed with the sunburst being converted to brass with no change of white metal for the rest of the badge.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite book|last=Nath|first=Ashok|title=Izzat: historical records and iconography of Indian cavalry regiments, 1750-2007|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=sGQeQwAACAAJ|year=2009|publisher=Centre for Armed Forces Historical Research, United Service Institution of India|isbn=978-81-902097-7-9|pages=562–563}} {{Indian Army Armoured Corps |state=expanded}}{{India-mil-stub}} 2 : Armoured and cavalry regiments of the Indian Army from 1947|Military units and formations established in 1984 |
