In their first season under head coach A. W. Ristine, the Cyclones compiled a 6–3–1 record, shut out six of ten opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 246 to 56.[1][2] Fred Byl was the team captain.[2] Between 1892 and 1913, the football team played on a field that later became the site of the university's Parks Library.[3] The field was known as State Field; when the new field opened in 1914, it became known as "New State Field".[4] Scheduleseason results table {{CFB schedule|{{CFB schedule entry | date = 28 September | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Still | site_stadium = State Field | site_cityst = Ames, Iowa | score = 35-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 4 October | w/l = l | nonconf = y | opponent = Minnesota | site_stadium = Northrop Field | site_cityst = Minneapolis, MN | score = 0-16 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 11 October | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Northern Iowa | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Cedar Falls, Iowa | score = 52-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 18 October | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Grinnell | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Grinnell, Iowa | score = 23-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 25 October | w/l = l | nonconf = y | opponent = Cornell (Iowa) | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Mount Vernon, Iowa | score = 15-17 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 1 November | w/l = l | nonconf = y | opponent = Iowa | site_stadium = Iowa Field | site_cityst = Iowa City, Iowa | score = 6-12 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 8 November | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Coe | site_stadium = State Field | site_cityst = Ames, Iowa | score = 53-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 15 November | w/l = t | nonconf = y | opponent = Drake | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Des Moines, Iowa | score = 0-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 22 November | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = William Penn | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Oskaloosa, Iowa | score = 44-0 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = 28 November | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Simpson | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Indianola, Iowa | score = 18-11 }} }} References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/iowa-state/1902-schedule.html|title=1902 Iowa State Cyclones Schedule and Results|publisher=Sports Reference LLC|work=SR/College Football|accessdate=September 24, 2017}} {{Iowa State Cyclones football navbox}}2. ^1 {{cite web|title=2017 Iowa State Football Fact Book|publisher=Iowa State University|year=2017|page=129|url=https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/isuni.sidearmsports.com/documents/2015/5/5/Media_Guide.pdf|accessdate=September 24, 2017}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Iowa State Football History: The 1890's|publisher=cyclones.com|accessdate=September 24, 2017|url=http://www.cyclones.com/news/2012/6/15/205439131.aspx}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Football Game|publisher=The Iowa Heritage Collection|accessdate=September 24, 2017|url=http://www.iowaheritage.org/items/show/67031}} 3 : 1902 college football season|Iowa State Cyclones football seasons|1902 in sports in Iowa |
