Chico State competed as a charter member of the California Coast Conference (CCC), which had its debut in 1922. They played home games at College Field in Chico, California. The 1922 Wildcats were led by second-year head coach George Sperry. Chico State finished the season with a record of five wins, two losses and two ties (5–3, 2–1 CCC North). The Wildcats outscored their opponents 115–86 for the season, including four shutout victories. This was the last season coach Sperry was at the helm. In his two years they compiled a record of 9–5–1, a .633 winning percentage.
