The team compiled a 5–3–1 record (2–3–1 in conference play), and finished in tie for sixth place in the Big Ten Conference.[1] The Hoosiers played their home games at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. The team was coached by Bo McMillin, in his 14th and final year as head coach of the Hoosiers. McMillin retired from his position as head coach at the end of the year. Three Indiana players received honors from Associated Press (AP), United Press (UP), or International News Service (INS) on the 1947 All-Big Nine Conference football team: guard Howard Brown (AP-1, INS-1, UP-1); halfback George Taliaferro (AP-2, INS-2); and end Lou Mihajlovich (AP-2, INS-2).[2][3][4] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rankyear = 1947 | poll = AP | timezone = Eastern | source = y |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 27 | time = | w/l = w | away = y | rank = | opponent = Nebraska | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Lincoln, Nebraska | tv = | score = 17–0 | attend = 33,000 | source = [5] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 4 | time = | w/l = t | rank = | opponent = Wisconsin | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Bloomington, Indiana | tv = | score = 7–7 | attend = 30,000 | source = [6] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 11 | time = | w/l = l | away = y | rank = | opponent = Iowa | site_stadium = Iowa Stadium | site_cityst = Iowa City, Iowa | tv = | score = 14–27 | attend = 51,000 | source = [7] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 18 | time = | w/l = w | nonconf = y | rank = | opponent = Pittsburgh | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Bloomington, Indiana | tv = | score = 41–6 | attend = 25,000 | source = [8] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 25 | time = | w/l = l | away = y | rank = | opponent = Northwestern | site_stadium = Dyche Stadium | site_cityst = Evanston, Illinois | tv = | score = 6–7 | attend = 42,000 | source = [9] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 1 | time = | w/l = w | away = y | rank = | opponent = Ohio State | site_stadium = Ohio Stadium | site_cityst = Columbus, Ohio | tv = | score = 7–0 | attend = 75,882 | source = [10] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 8 | time = | w/l = l | away = y | rank = | opponent = Michigan | opprank = 2 | site_stadium = Michigan Stadium | site_cityst = Ann Arbor, Michigan | tv = | score = 0–35 | attend = 85,938 | source = [11] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 15 | time = | w/l = w | nonconf = y | rank = | opponent = Marquette | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Bloomington, Indiana | tv = | score = 48–6 | attend = 15,000 | source = [12] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 22 | time = | w/l = w | rank = | opponent = Purdue | gamename = Old Oaken Bucket | site_stadium = Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Bloomington, Indiana | tv = | score = 16–14 | attend = 33,500 | source = [13] }} }}[14] 1948 NFL drafteesThree Indiana players were selected in the 1948 NFL Draft, as follows:[15]
