In its tenth season under head coach George Munger, the team compiled a 7–0–1 record, outscored opponents by a total of 219 to 35, and was ranked No. 7 in the final AP Poll. The team's lone setback was a 7–7 tie with Army.[1] Munger was Penn's head coach for 16 years; he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1976. In addition, three players from the 1947 team were inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame: center/linebacker Chuck Bednarik; tackle George Savitsky; and halfback Skip Minisi. Bednarik was a consensus first-team All-American;[2] he also finished seventh in the 1947 voting for the Heisman Trophy.[3] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rank = yes | attend = yes | source = yes | rankyear = 1947 | poll = AP |October 4||Lafayette||Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|W 59–0|51,283|[4] |October 11|at|Dartmouth|7|Memorial Field|Hanover, NH|W 32-0|12,000|[5] |October 18||Columbia|8|Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|W 34-14|70,000|[6] |October 25||Navy|8|Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|W 21-0|80,000|[7] |November 1|at|Princeton|4|Palmer Stadium|Princeton, NJ|W 26-7|49,000|[8] |November 8||No. 10 Virginia|4|Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|W 19-7|79,000|[9] |November 15||No. 13 Army|4|Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|T 7-7|80,000|[10] |November 27||Cornell|8|Franklin Field|Philadelphia, PA|W 21-0|80,000|[11] }} References1. ^{{cite web|title=1947 Pennsylvania Quakers Schedule and Results|publisher=Sports Reference LLC|work=SR/College Football|accessdate=February 9, 2019|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/pennsylvania/1947-schedule.html}} {{Penn Quakers football navbox}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Football Award Winners|publisher=National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)|year=2016|accessdate=October 21, 2017|page=8|url=http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/2016/awards.pdf}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=1947 Heisman Trophy Voting|publisher=Sports Reference LLC|work=SR/College Football|accessdate=February 13, 2019|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/awards/heisman-1947.html}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Penn Crushes Lafayette, 59-0; 51,283 See Luongo Score Four|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=October 5, 1947|pages=1S, 4S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/28217894/penn_crushes_lafayette_590_51283/|via=Newspapers.com}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Penn's Fourth-Period Drives Crush Dartmouth Eleven, 32-0|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=October 12, 1947|pages=1S, 2S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7864876/the_philadelphia_inquirer/|via=Newspapers.com}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Penn Downs Columbia, 34-14, Before 70,000|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=October 19, 1947|page=1S, 2S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/27938814/penn_downs_columbia_3414_before/|via=Newspapers.com}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=80,000 Watch Penn Win, 21-0|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=October 26, 1947|pages=1S, 2S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/28216863/80000_watch_penn_win_210/|via=Newspapers.com}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Penn Beats Princeton for 5th Straight, 26-7|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=November 2, 1947|page=33|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/28211551/penn_beats_princeton_for_5th_straight/|via=Newspapers.com}} 9. ^{{cite news|title=Penn Beats Virginia, 19-7, on Deuber's Runs|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=November 9, 1947|pages=1S, 2S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/28216181/penn_beats_virginia_197_on_deubers/|via=Newspapers.com}} 10. ^{{cite news|title=Unbeaten Penn Ties Army, 7-7, Before 80,000|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Art Morrow|date=November 16, 1947|pages=1S, 2S|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7858527/the_philadelphia_inquirer/|via=Newspapers.com}} 11. ^{{cite news|title=Whole City Gives Thanks; 80,000 See Penn Triumph|newspaper=The Philadelphia Inquirer|author=Oliver H.
