They finished the season with a record of five wins and six losses (5–6, 3–1 PCAA). While Fresno State lost its initial game against the Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, the game was subsequently forfeited by Louisiana-Lafayette due to the use of ineligible players. The won-loss record is not adjusted.[3] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rankyear = no | poll = no |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 11 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1976|team=Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns|title=Southwestern Louisiana}}[4] | site_stadium = Cajun Field | site_cityst = Lafayette, LA | score = 14–41 forfeit win | attend = 22,890 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 18 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = San Diego State | gamename = Rivalry | site_stadium = San Diego Stadium | site_cityst = San Diego, CA | score = 3–7[5] | attend = 40,768 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 25 | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = Montana State | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 24–10 | attend = 11,500 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 2 | w/l = w | opponent = Cal State Fullerton | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 31–12 | attend = 11,500 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 9 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1976|team=Wichita State Shockers|title=Wichita State}} | site_stadium = Cessna Stadium | site_cityst = Wichita, KS | score = 24–30[6] | attend = 12,609 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 16 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | opponent = Cal Poly[7] | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 15–17 | attend = 12,650 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 23 | w/l = l | away = y | opponent = San Jose State | gamename = Rivalry | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, CA | score = 7–21 | attend = 16,500 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 30 | w/l = w | opponent = Pacific (CA) | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 35–7 | attend = 10,200 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 6 | w/l = w | opponent = Long Beach State[8] | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 23–0[9] | attend = 11,100 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 13 | w/l = w | nonconf = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1976|team=New Mexico State Aggies|title=New Mexico State}} | site_stadium = Ratcliffe Stadium | site_cityst = Fresno, CA | score = 44–0 | attend = 8,279 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 20 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1976|team=Santa Clara Broncos|title=Santa Clara}} | site_stadium = Stevens Stadium | site_cityst = Santa Clara, CA | score = 17–20 | attend = }} }}[10][11][12] Team players in the NFLNo Bulldogs were selected in the 1977 NFL Draft.[13][14] Notes1. ^The official name of Fresno State has been California State University, Fresno since 1972.
