All fifty states and The District of Columbia were part of the 1976 United States presidential election. Oklahoma voters chose eight electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Oklahoma was won by Incumbent President Gerald Ford (R) by a narrow margin of 1.21 percent.[1] Despite Ford’s narrow victory, Oklahoma is a reliably Republican state, and the last Democratic presidential candidate to carry the state was Lyndon Johnson in his 1964 presidential campaign. {{As of|2016|11|alt=As of the 2016 presidential election}}, this is the last election in which a Democrat carried one of the three counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle, namely Cimarron County, as well as the last time Grant County, Jackson County, Rogers County, Adair County, Dewey County, Roger Mills County, Lincoln County, Creek County, Grady County, Logan County, McClain County, Pottawatomie County, and Wagoner County voted for a Democratic presidential candidate.[2]Results{{start U.S. presidential ticket box}}{{U.S. presidential ticket box row|name=Gerald Ford|party=Republican|pv=545,708|state=Michigan|pv_pct=49.96%|ev=8|vp_name=Robert Dole|vp_state=Kansas}}{{U.S. presidential ticket box row|name=Jimmy Carter|party=Democrat|pv=534,442|state=Georgia|pv_pct=48.75%|ev=0|vp_name=Walter Mondale|vp_state=Minnesota}}{{U.S. presidential ticket box row|name=Eugene McCarthy|party=Independent|pv=14,101|state=Minnesota|pv_pct=1.26%|ev=0|vp_name=—|vp_state=—}}{{end U.S. presidential ticket box|pv=1,094,251|pv_pct=100.00%|ev=8|to_win=270}}Results by county | Gerald Rudolph Ford Republican | James Earl Carter Democratic | Eugene McCarthy Independent | Margin | Total votes cast |
