He had been their defensive coordinator for the previous three years. They played home games at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California. The Spartans finished the 1984 season with a record of five wins and six losses (6–5, 5–2 PCAA). After the season was over, it was discovered that the UNLV Rebels had used multiple ineligible players during both the 1983 and 1984 season. As a result, San Jose State's loss at UNLV turns into a forfeit win and their record is adjusted to 7–4, 6–1 PCAA.[2] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rankyear = no | poll = no |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 1 | w/l = w | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1984|team=New Mexico State Aggies|title=New Mexico State}} | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, California | score = 14–0 | attend = }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 8 | w/l = w | away = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1984|team=UNLV Rebels|title=UNLV}} | site_stadium = Sam Boyd Silver Bowl | site_cityst = Whitney, Nevada | score = 15–30 (forfeit win) | attend = 21,360[3] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 15 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = Arizona State | site_stadium = Sun Devil Stadium | site_cityst = Tempe, Arizona | score = 0–48 | attend = 63,271 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 22 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = Stanford | gamename = Rivalry | site_stadium = Stanford Stadium | site_cityst = Stanford, California | score = 27–28 | attend = 70,426 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 29 | w/l = w | nonconf = y | away = y | opponent = California | site_stadium = California Memorial Stadium | site_cityst = Berkeley, California | score = 33–18 | attend = 43,200 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 6 | w/l = w | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1984|team=Utah State Aggies|title=Utah State}} | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, California | score = 38–21 | attend = 14,667[4][5] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 13 | w/l = l | away = y | opponent = Cal State Fullerton | site_stadium = Santa Ana Stadium | site_cityst = Santa Ana, California | score = 12–21 | attend = 9,260[6] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 20 | w/l = l | nonconf = y | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1984|team=Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns|title=Southwestern Louisiana}}[7] | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, California | score = 28–35 | attend = }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 27 | w/l = w | homecoming = y | opponent = Fresno State[8] | gamename = Rivalry | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, California | score = 18–17 | attend = 17,047[9][10] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 10 | w/l = w | opponent = Long Beach State[11] | site_stadium = Spartan Stadium | site_cityst = San Jose, California | score = 42–7 | attend = 4,444[12] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 17 | w/l = w | away = y | opponent = Pacific (CA) | site_stadium = Pacific Memorial Stadium[13] | site_cityst = Stockton, California | score = 33–0 | attend = }} }}[14][15] Team players in the NFLThe following were selected in the 1985 NFL Draft.[16]
