The Trojans played their home games at Movie Gallery Stadium in Troy, Alabama and competed as a Division 1-A Independent. The 2003 season was Troy State's second season as a member of Division 1-A. During the season, Troy managed to get one of the biggest wins in the program's history at the time, defeating Marshall 33-24 in front of a then record crowd of 26,000. Marshall had just finished their previous season as the #24-ranked team in the AP Poll, and prior to playing against Troy, had just come off of an upset victory over #6 Kansas State, which is what made the win a milestone victory for Troy. Following the win over Marshall, students and fans in attendance rushed the field and tore down the goal posts.[1] Schedule{{CFB schedule| rankyear = 2003 | poll = AP | timezone = Central |{{CFB schedule entry | date = August 30 | time = | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | rank = | opponent = Kansas State | opprank = 7 | site_stadium = KSU Stadium | site_cityst = Manhattan, Kansas | tv = | score = 5–41 | attend = 41,812 }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 6 | time = | w/l = l | nonconf = y | away = y | rank = | opponent = Minnesota | site_stadium = Hubert H.
