They were a charter member of the Great West Football Conference (GWFC), having previously played as a Division II independent. The 2004 Aggies were led by head coach Bob Biggs in his twelfth year and played their home games at Toomey Field. UC Davis finished the season with a record of six wins and four losses (6–4, 3–2 GWFC). This was the 35th consecutive year UC Davis finished with a winning record. The Aggies outscored their opponents 323–211 for the season.
