Elections to Dundee City Council were held on 4 May 2017 on the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election used the eight wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using the single transferable vote system (a form of proportional representation). A total of 29 Councillors were elected. After the 2012 election a Scottish National Party (SNP) administration had been formed. In 2017 the SNP lost 2 seats reducing their numbers to 15, being one seat short of an overall majority. They formed an administration with the support of the Independent Ian Borthwick. 2017 Results{{Election Summary Begin|title = Dundee Local Election Result 2017[1][2]}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Scottish National Party |seats = 14 |gain = |loss = |net = {{decrease}}2 |seats % = |votes % = 41.26 |votes = 18,289 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Scottish Labour Party |seats = 9 |gain = |loss = |net = {{decrease}}1 |seats % = |votes % = 20.30 |votes = 8,997 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Scottish Conservative Party |seats = 3 |gain = |loss = |net = {{increase}}2 |seats % = |votes % = 17.25 |votes = 7,644 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Scottish Liberal Democrats |seats = 2 |gain = |loss = |net = {{increase}}1 |seats % = |votes % = 8.10 |votes = 3,589 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Independent (politician) |seats = 1 |gain = - |loss = - |net = {{nochange}} |seats % = |votes % = 5.33 |votes = 2,364 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Scottish Green Party |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = {{nochange}} |seats % = - |votes % = 2.49 |votes = 1,102 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = {{nochange}} |seats % = - |votes % = 1.55 |votes = 688 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = UKIP |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = {{nochange}} |seats % = - |votes % = 0.23 |votes = 103 |plus/minus = }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Scottish Socialist Party |seats = 0 |gain = - |loss = - |net = {{nochange}} |seats % = - |votes % = 0.13 |votes = 59 |plus/minus = }}{{Election box end}}Note: "Votes" are the first preference votes.
