The 2017–18 Académcia da Praia season were in the island division of football (soccer).[1]

Santiago South Premier Division

Their first round match was to feature Varanda, as that club withdrew, they were replaced with Tira Chapéu, their recent newcomer to the second tier competition, the match has been delayed until January 3. Académica Praia started off the season with a win over Travadores, at round 3 on November 19, the club did the unpredictable, a win away over almighty Sporting Praia with the result 3-2 and contested to be the master of the top three clubs of the south of the island alongside Boavista Praia as well as the country, also it was their next club's win over Sporting away in under seven years. Académica Praia became third as of the third round behind Celtic da Praia and Boavista Praia and ahead of Sporting. Académica made two more wins with a score 0-2, first to the weak Ribeira Grande, then to Benfica and the club was second. Académica lost to the powerful Boavista 0-1 and lost a position to third, where they were at the sixth round with 12 points and had the second most number of goals with ten, second behind Celtic and Sporting Praia. Académica defeated Desportivo and started their six match winning streak, in a match with Bairro, they won 2-1 and was the last goal conceded away to date. Académica played with their first challenge with Tira Chapéu in their rescheduled match on January 3 and won 4-0, for the first round, Académica officially started first place for the season and first place for the first few rounds, they also won the season's first five matches. On January 10, Académica was first place from the 8th round onward, they had 27 points and already replaced Celtic as the first place, they are ahead of Boavista and four positions ahead of almighty Sporting. On January 14, Académica defeated Cetlic with only 1-0, the club also had 30 points, Sporting will not attempt to make as they don't have enough points to supersede but Académica did later in the season.{{Clarify|date=July 2018}}

In the same time, Lito transferred from Sporting to Académica Praia as coach of the club while Janito left. Académica Praia had a six match winning streak and lastly defeated the newcomer Tira Chapéu and kept that club in the possibly planned relegation zone, Académica had 33 points. A goal draw with Travadores was made on January 29 (Académica's next Premier Division draw in 15 matches) and thus ended a possibility of having the same record as Sporting did last season in point totals. The club was second in the regional goal totals with 29 scored, second behind Boavista and still does at the 14th round as another draw was made for Académica with Sporting without any goals scored. Another victory for Académica over Ribeira Grande was made on February 9 and 150% (1 1/2) more goals as they finished with 5-0, they had scored 34 goals, a goal more than last season and higher than the previous eight seasons. On February 18, Académica made their second straight win as they defeated Benfica Praia 4-1 and had a total of 41 points and 29 goals, their point total has now become fifth overall since three points for a win was implemented in the mid 1990s, it surpassed their 40 point total made in the 2008-09 season, their goal totals finally matched that of the 2003-04 season. Their third straight win came as they defeated Boavista (a revenge over their last loss in their last meeting on December 10) with the score 0-1, low for Académica as they just had 39 goals in total which they became second overall behind their totals made in the 2007-08 and the 2008-09 Santiago South season. Académica had 44 points which had yet to reach or surpass the pinnacle of their overall 45 points made in the 2003-04 season and last season (2016-17), their totals was second, Académica had 14 wins, which tied their record made in the 2003-04 season. Académica made their fourth straight win as they defeated Desportivo with the low result of 1-0 but the club finally reached into club record in points 47 and also their 15 wins. Their win totals were even with Sporting Praia's last season as they had 15 wins. Straight win no. five came to Académica after another victory over Eugěnio Lima on March 11 and the club finally made the region's most wins numbering 16 since the 2015-16 expansion to 22 annual matches, also they got its 50th point, there in goal scoring, Académica may had reached a new pinnacle of 43 goals. At round 20 on March 14, Académica made another surprising victory (17th seasonal) with a 3-0 over Bairro, their club records continue, especially in points which had 53 and became second in Santiago South, beating Boavista's 2016-17 record. Four days later, with Boavista's match with Eugênio Lima ending in a draw, Académica, who has an eight point difference over second placed Boavista became regional champions and claim their next regional title in nine years at the 22nd round, also alongside Sporting, the recent national champion, they will appear in the upcoming national championships in April. Académica's winning legacy continues and made their seventh straight with a win over Tchadense, also Académica finally reached a new pinnacle in regional point record with the number 56, overcame Sporting's 55 made last season. Académica. Of any in Cape Verde, it is third behind Scorpion Vermelho's 61 and Tarrafal's Varandinha's 63, both of the Santiago North Premier Division made in 2016, these numbers for any Santiago South club were unbeatable this season again. Celtic Praia was their season's final match, their seven match winning streak and their 15 match unbeaten streak came to an end as Académica suffered another loss with the score 1-2 and shattered another record attempt. Académica Praia finished with a new regional record of 56 points, of any in the archipelago, third overall.

Cape Verdean Football Championships

Académica Praia is now appearing at the 2018 national championships for the season and are playing in Group A and is the second listed participant, another participant will be Académica do Porto Novo, champion of Santo Antão South.

Académica met Mindelense, champion of São Vicente and made a scoreless draw. Académica was in third place in the group alongside Mindelense with a point made but no goals, behind first placed clubs of Sal Rei and Académica Porto Novo who had the same points but a goal scored each. Académica made their next national championship match win in under 9 years (their last was in the semis of the 2009 season) as they defeated Sal Rei 2-0 on April 21 in Boa Vista Island. Again they faced Sal Rei as the schedule was out of order (would have been a 6th round match), it was played at the fourth round and another victory was made, this time at Várzea. A draw without goals scored was repeated with Mindelense at the fifth round. Their final national championship match will be against Académica Porto Novo in their battle for qualification (first place or best of second placed clubs). They share the points with Académica Porto Novo but Académica Praia has a total of four goals, three less than the other club.

Santiago South Cup

Académica started at the first round and faced Delta, they defeated the club 4-0 on December 4 and proceeded to the second round where they played on January 17 and faced Asa Grande which later ended in a huge 10-0 victory and made it the highest result at the cup competition in some seasons along with overall results with the championships. They headed to the quarterfinals and played their rivalry with almighty Sporting, the match ended in a goal draw, there Académica conceded its only goal. The match went into the penalty shootout where they would lost to Sporting 7-8 and Académica failed to appear in the semis.
