Southeast Pacific subtropical cyclone{{Main|Subtropical Cyclone Lexi}}{{storm path|Lexi 2018 track.png}}In addition to the storms in the 3 recognized cyclone basins, a subtropical storm formed off the coast of Chile on May 4, 2018 and persisted until May 10. Researchers unofficially named the system Lexi.[1] This was a highly unusual (possibly unprecedented) event, in an area where the surface ocean temperatures are regarded as too low for the necessary sustained thunderstorm activity to generate a tropical cyclone.[2] {{clear}}References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.australiasevereweather.com/cyclones/2018/trak1805.htm|title=Monthly Global Tropical Cyclone Tracks - May 2018|author=Steve Young|publisher=Australia Severe Weather|date=5 July 2018|accessdate=3 September 2018}} {{disambiguation}}{{DEFAULTSORT:2017-18 Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone season}}2. ^{{Cite news|author=Jonathan Belles|date=9 May 2018|url=https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/2018-05-08-subtropical-cyclone-chile|title=Extremely Rare Southeast Pacific Subtropical Cyclone Forms Off the Chilean Coast|work=The Weather Channel|access-date=2018-05-11|language=en-US}} 1 : 2017–18 Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone season |
