The 2019 Rugby Challenge Shield – known as the SuperSport Rugby Challenge Shield for sponsorship reasons – {{show by date|2019|04|27|will be|{{show by date|2019|06|22|is|was}}}} the second tier of the Rugby Challenge, the secondary domestic rugby union competition in South Africa. It {{show by date|2019|04|27|will be|{{show by date|2019|06|22|is|was}}}} the third edition of the competition organised by the South African Rugby Union and {{show by date|2019|04|27|will be|{{show by date|2019|06|22|is|was}}}} played between 27 April and 20 June 2019. In a change from 2018, there {{show by date|2019|04|27|will be|{{show by date|2019|06|22|are|were}}}} two separate competitions; a Cup competition featuring the seven Currie Cup Premier Division teams and a Shield competition featuring the other six South African provincial unions plus {{nrut|Namibia}}n side the {{Rut Welwitschias}} and {{nrut|Zimbabwe}}.

Competition rules and information

The eight teams in the Shield competition {{show by date|2019|04|27|will be|{{show by date|2019|06|22|are|were}}}} divided into two regional pools of four teams; each team will play the other three teams in their pool twice during the pool stage, once at home and once away.
