United States gubernatorial elections will be held on November 2, 2021 in two states, New Jersey and Virginia.

Phil Murphy (New Jersey)

Governor Phil Murphy was elected in 2017 with 56% of the vote.[1] He is eligible to run for re-election, and has not yet stated whether he will do so.

Republican Jack Ciattarelli has announced that he is running for governor in 2021.[2] Potential candidates include former Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey Kim Guadagno,[3] former U.S. Representative Tom MacArthur,[4] and former congressional candidate and radio talk show host Bill Spadea.

Ralph Northam (Virginia)

Governor Ralph Northam was elected in 2017 with 53.9% of the vote.[5] He will be term-limited in 2021, as the Virginia Constitution does not allow governors to serve consecutive terms.

Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat, announced he was running for governor.[6] Other potential Democratic candidates include Lieutenant Governor of Virginia Justin Fairfax,[7] former U.S. Representative and 2017 gubernatorial candidate Tom Perriello, and Richmond, Virginia mayor Levar Stoney.[8]

Potential Republican candidates include State Senator Frank Wagner, 2017 Gubernatorial Nominee Ed Gillespie, 2018 U.S. Senate nominee Corey Stewart, former Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, former Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, U.S. Representatives Rob Wittman, Denver Riggleman, Ben Cline, and Morgan Griffith. Also including former U.S. Representatives Scott Taylor, Dave Brat, Tom Garrett, Bob Goodlatte, and Barbara Comstock.
