}}Aapta Mitrulu (English: Close Friends) is a 1963 Telugu drama film, produced and directed by Kadaru Nagabhushanam under the Sri Raja Rajeswari Film Company banner.^[3]^[4] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna Kumari, Kanta Rao in the lead roles^[5] and music composed by Ghantasala.^[6]^[7]

Plot

Prakash (N. T. Rama Rao) & Shekar (Kanta Rao) are childhood friends. Shekar belongs to a rich family whereas Prakash works as an employee in his company and sister Vimala (Krishna Kumari) loves Shekar. But Shekar’s mother Kamalamma (Kannamba), wants to make a rich alliance to her son. Once Shekar sends Prakash to Bangalore on an official trip where he gets acquainted with Kokila (Rajasulochana), daughter of a millionaire, Kameswara Rao (Relangi) and both fall in love. Unfortunately, Kamalamma decides Kokila's match with Shekar and moves with a marriage proposal when she learns regarding the love affair of Kokila & Prakash. Angered, Kamalamma develops grudge in Shekar's mind against Prakash. Meanwhile, in a business deal, Shekar quarrels with a broker and he dies. Prakash takes the blame on him because Shekar gives an assurance that he will marry Vimala. After that, Prakash is sentenced for 6 years and Shekar marries Vimala secretly, but his mindset is cruel, so, he cheats and leaves her after getting pregnant. Vimala tries to commit suicide, but she was saved by an old man, Ramayya (Perumallu) and she gives birth to a baby boy. Time passes, Prakash is released, when he goes to meet Shekar he narrates a false story that Vimala has eloped with someone. Desperate, Prakash leaves the city. Vimala makes her livelihood by giving music lessons. Once Dhanakoti (Mikkilineni), a rich man, tries to molest Vimala when Prakash saves her. At that time, he knows the reality of Shekar. Parallelly, Shekar plans to marry Kokila, but she refuses, so, he tries to kill her and Prakash saves her. Knowing that, Vimala & the child are alive, he orders his henchmen to kidnap them and they do so. Prakash protects them and he is about to kill Shekar, Vimala obstructs his way and Shekar realizes his mistake. Kamalamma says sorry to Prakash and accepts Vimala as her daughter-in-law. Finally, the movie ends with the marriage of Prakash & Kokila and Shekar surrendering himself to Police.
