Kiptum set the half marathon world record on 28 October 2018 in the Valencia Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain. His finishing time was 58:18.[3] Kiptum improved the world record from Zersenay Tadese set in 2010 by 5 seconds (58:23).[4] His 10 km to 20 km split in the Valencia Half Marathon was 27:16. His debut in the marathon was the Rabat Marathon in 2015, where he placed third with a time of 2:11:36.[5] The women's world record was set in the Valencia Half Marathon in 2017 by Joyciline Jepkosg (Kenya) with 1:04:51 (with a male pacemaker).[6] At the 2018 World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Netsanet Gudeta (Ethiopia) set the world record for a women-only race with 1:06:11.[7] In the inaugural Abu Dhabi Marathon on 7 December 2018, he fnished as the runner-up with 2:04:16, 12 seconds behind the winner Marius Kipserem. He improved his PB from last years Amsterdam Marathon by 70 seconds.[8] Personal lifeAbraham Kiptum was born in Chepketei Kosirai Village, Kenya as the third of four children. Kiptum went to Kosirai Primary School and Kipmokoch Secondary School.
