The location was identified as Karabavullu or Karabavli, about 35 km south of Lake Egridir. Literature and archaeological evidenceThe earliest evidence in ancient literature about the city is from the geographer Artemidorus of Ephesus, quoted by Strabo,[3] who lists Adada among the ancient cities of Pisidia, confirmed by geographer Ptolemy.[4] The name Adada is probably Pisidian. In ancient sources it is also mentioned as Adadate and Odada, probably corruptions of the main name.[5] Archaeological evidence of the name of the city is attested in an inscription of the second century BCE recording a treaty of friendship and alliance with Termessos.[6] The archaeological siteThe Temple of the Emperors and Aphrodite, and the Temple of the Emperors and Zeus Sarapis are included in visible ruins of the archaeological site. There is also a well-preserved stairway leading from the agora to a tower and other buildings, probably the acropolis of the city. There are also standing buildings of different types[6] NumismaticsThere are two periods of coinage in Adada
ReligionOn the basis of the iconographic types of portraiture in coins, the worship of Zeus, Dionysus, Artemis (Pergaia), Athena and Hygieia is attested. Furthermore, attested also is the heroic cult of Heracles, of Dioscuri and Asclepius, as well as the imperial cult.[5] Episcopal SeeIn the Byzantine era the city was an episcopal see attached to Antioch.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.kultur.gov.tr/EN,114129/alacahoyuk.html|title=Adada|accessdate=4 April 2016}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=37.575348&lon=30.983162&z=16&m=b&search=Pisidia|title=Adada|publisher=Wikimapia|accessdate=4 April 2016}} 3. ^Strabo 12.570. 4. ^Ptolemy, Geogr. 5.5.8. 5. ^1 {{cite journal|last=Patsiadou |first=Lila |year=2003 |title=Adada (Antiquity |journal=Encyclopedia of the Hellenic World |url=http://www.ehw.gr/l.aspx?id=7065 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160424180757/http://www.ehw.gr/l.aspx?id=7065 |archivedate=2016-04-24 }} 6. ^1 {{cite encyclopedia|editors=Stillwell, Richard et al|title=ADADA (Karabavli) Pisidia, Turkey|encyclopedia=The Princeton encyclopedia of classical sites|publisher=Princeton University Press|location=Princeton, N.J.|year=1976|url=http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0006:id=adada}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.asiaminorcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=269|title=Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor: Adada|publisher=Asia Minor Coins|accessdate=4 April 2016}} 8. ^{{cite book|last=Darrouzes|first=J.|title=Notitiae episcopaatum Ecclesiae Constantinopolitanae |year=1981|location=Paris|pages=I 424, III 377, VII 203, VIII 479, IX 387, X 491, XIII 341}} 6 : History of Isparta Province|Ancient Greek archaeological sites in Turkey|Pisidia|Roman sites in Turkey|Former dioceses in Asia|Populated places of the Byzantine Empire |
