He is best known for being a creator and host of pop culture and hip hop-oriented podcast No Jumper.[3][4][5] Early lifeGrandmaison became a BMX rider at a young age and joined a group called "Jumper" which later would become known as "No Jumper". "No Jumper" is also the name of Grandmaison's podcast and brand that has now become his full time business. CareerIn 2006, Grandmaison started the website, "The Come Up," which became one of the most popular BMX websites of all time.[6] Later, he created OnSomeShit, a BMX biking team and BMX-based clothing line which has a retail store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.[3][7] Grandmaison hosted the inaugural Trap Circus music festival in Miami, Florida in 2017.[5][8] No JumperNo Jumper was originally a blog on Tumblr, started by George Potter in 2011 and financed by Grandmaison who was a prolific BMX biker.[9] The blog reviewed early underground artists such as Spaceghostpurrp and Clams Casino, and reviewed obscure Gucci Mane mixtapes, treating the underground with "critical attention."[10]Revived in 2015, Grandmaison's No Jumper podcast, hosted on YouTube, focuses on interviews with underground rap artists and tastemakers.[11] As of March 2017, the interviews had received approximately 500,000 to 1 million views each.[3] No Jumper originally started as a BMX podcast with vlogs dedicated to Grandmaison's life running OnSomeShit's retail store. Grandmaison's interview of Memphis rapper and well-known underground rap figure Xavier Wulf soon turned viral within hip-hop communities, sparking Grandmaison's newfound interest in interviewing known figures within both underground and mainstream hip-hop.[12] Grandmaison, through his No Jumper podcast, has been noted for interviewing up-and-coming talent as well as established rappers. He has interviewed Lil Yachty, Smokepurpp, Ugly God, 6ix9ine, Suicideboys, Action Bronson, and most famously XXXTentacion in April 2016; the latter interview received over 9 million views.[7][1] This was the Florida rapper's first official professional interview, and has been credited with giving him exposure to a wide audience.[13][14] Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg has said he views Grandmaison "as an advance scout searching for combustible new talent," while Rolling Stone described him as “underground hip-hop’s major tastemaker.”[1][15]The No Jumper YouTube channel has over 518 million total video views and 2.7 million subscribers as of March 2019.[16] Jon Caramanica of the New York Times described No Jumper as "The Paris Review for the face-tattoo set."[17] On June 20, 2018, Grandmaison held a memorial event for XXXTentacion, who was murdered two days prior, in front of his OnSomeShit store, with a crowd of 300 people.[18] The crowd grew to over 1,000, and police in riot gear eventually appeared.[19] According to reports, rubber bullets were shot and tear gas was used to disperse the crowd.[20] Grandmaison was one of the promoters for YouTube personality FouseyTube's event, “Hate Dies, Love Arrives” which was shut down via a bomb threat which left 1,500 people evacuated.[21] Shortly after the event, Grandmaison interviewed Shane Dawson. Mid-interview, FouseyTube and numerous other YouTube personalities interrupted, causing the interview to go viral.[22] Personal lifeGrandmaison is in a relationship with vlogger and YouTube personality Lena Nersesian (Lena the Plug).[23] Grandmaison identifies as an atheist.[24] ControversyOn March 12, 2014, Grandmaison faced significant public backlash after posting a controversial video to his Facebook of BMX riders whom were known to frequent his bike shop OSS (On Some Shit). The video depicted said BMX riders bunny hopping over what seemed to be unsuspecting homeless people in and around the "skid row" area of downtown LA. Local news gained access to the video,[25] and published a piece in which they asked locals for their opinions on the clip. Grandmaison said in an interview that he did not condone the actions depicted in the video. In March 2018, allegations of Grandmaison committing sexual assault against women and female minors was reported on by multiple music news outlets and blogs.[26][27][28] Grandmaison denied the claims in a statement on Twitter[29] and in an interview with DJ Akademiks.[30] Grandmaison was criticized on social media on July 5, 2018 following comments on unpaid internships, saying, "If you’re complaining about unpaid internships I am 100% sure you aren’t ever gonna make it."[31] Publications such as Daily Dot cited previous tweets in which Grandmaison expressed admiration for paid internships. However, other publications such as Fortune supported Grandmaison's views.[32] DiscographySingles
