Early life and educationMiles was born Esther Adina Miles in Brooklyn, New York. She went to the Jewish Orthodox School Bais Yaakov Academy and Manhattan High School for Girls. She holds a master's degree in medieval literature from Brooklyn College.[1] CareerSash runs an Instagram account named Flatbush Girl,[2] with about 45,000 followers,[3] of on which she posts selfies, memes, jokes and opinions.[2][3][6] In 2017, Sash launched a social media campaign #FrumWomenHaveFaces that went viral on social media. She was covered in the NY Daily News and Mayim Bialik picked up the campaign.[2][3] Sash had taken out a full-page ad in the Flatbush Jewish Journal thanking city councilman, Chaim Deutsch, for his service to the Jewish community, but she was told not to show her face and the word "girl" in the ad.[4][5][6] She published the ad with an emoji covering her face, and changed 'Flatbush Girl' to 'Flatbush Boy'.[5] In December 2018, she defended a Jewish lesbian comic whose scheduled performances at two kosher restaurants were cancelled because of her sexuality; Sash had been due to emcee at the events.[7][8][9][10][11][12] PoliticsSash ran for female district leader in the 45th New York State Assembly in 2018.[13] After New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams won his 2019 special election to replace Tish James as New York City Public Advocate, he had to abdicate his seat in the City Council.
