Aftown as a company consists of two main platforms [https://aftownmusic.com aftownmusic (stream)] and [https://aftown.com aftown (downloads)].Aftown for downloads was launched on October 21, 2016. Due to the growing demands for a streaming service aftownmusic was subsequently launched on February 2018. It is currently the top indigenous music streaming and download site in West Africa.[2] Business modelAftownmusic operates under a premium business model (basic services are offered via paid subscriptions). Aftownmusic generates revenues by selling premium streaming subscriptions to users and advertising placements to third parties.[3] In July 2017, the company launched a new website, "Aftown for Artists", that helped artists with their brand and music submission. Aftownmusic gets its content from some record labels as well as independent artists, and pays copyright holders royalties for streamed music. Aftownmusic encourages people to pay for music, with subscriptions as its main revenue source. MTN Ghana recently partnered with Aftownmusic to make subscribing easier for its users across the country by allowing its users to subscribe using airtime. Aftown for ArtistsIn June 2018, Aftownmusic introduced an artist panel, letting artists and managers submit their music and update their profile seamlessly.[4][5] Industry initiativesCurrently, aftownmusic has a music show on DGN TV which plays music on the top charts and host interviews with upcoming programs. Aftownmusic has hosted several workshops with musicians all over the country in a bid to educate them about branding and revenue making streams.[6] Aftown has also worked with several local artists to produce EPs and concerts. In January 2019, MTN Ghana partnered with aftownmusic to launch MTN digital Music Conference [7] to help local artists monetize their music. Aftownmusic also features a web player, for those who are unable to – or do not want to – download an app. HistoryAftownmusic developed in 2017 by a team at Technation Gh, in Accra, Ghana. The company's title is a mixture of the words ‘Africa’ and ‘Town’ to promote African music. The idea for the company came about after M.anifest sold his albums through 15ghana.com successfully all over Ghana, due to the many challenges faced, the idea for aftown and aftownmusic came into being.
