}}Agusto & Co. is a credit rating agency based in Nigeria. It was the first Nigerian based rating agency to set-up in the country in 1992. Agusto & Co was also the first Securities & Exchange Commission recognised credit rating agency in the country in 2001.[1] It is also registered by the Capital Markets Authority in Kenya.[2] and the Capital Markets Authority in Rwanda.[3]

Agusto & Co has played an instrumental part in the development of the Nigerian economy since the 1990s. As the first rating agency in the country, they undertook the task to carry out unsolicited checks of all Nigeria's major banks and provide them with ratings. Since then, they have actively moved into other financial markets in Africa to carry out ratings.

The company began has an information provider, researching company information in Nigeria, with the long-term view of assigning risk ratings to organisations in chosen African countries. In 1992, Agusto became the Nigeria's first credit rating agency. As the first agency in the country, they carried out a number of projects and tasks, which helped establish the credit rating market we see in Nigeria today. This included assigning ratings to Nigeria's 120 banks on an unsolicited basis for a period of five years. After 1997, they returned to the 120 banks to commence with solicited ratings.[1]

Agusto & Co was licensed in 2001 by Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), becoming the first Nigerian agency to be recognised by the SEC.[1] In 2013, the company was registered by Capital Markets Authority, Kenya.[4]

Later that year, Agusto and their research predicted that a fall in loan levels and values, following the end of the oil sector credit boom.[7]
