ProductionDevelopmentOn June 23, 2016, reports emerged about A Hidden Life (initially titled Radegund), which would depict the life of Austria’s Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector during World War II who was put to death at the age of 36 for undermining military actions, and was later declared a martyr and beatified by the Catholic Church. It was announced that set to play Jägerstätter is August Diehl and Valerie Pachner is to play his wife Franziska Jägerstätter.[1] A delay is expected with the death of Bruno Ganz. WritingA Hidden Life will have a more structured narrative than Malick's previous works according to the filmmaker, who stated, "Lately – I keep insisting, only very lately – have I been working without a script and I’ve lately repented the idea. The last picture we shot, and we’re now cutting, went back to a script that was very well ordered."[1]FilmingThe film was announced to set to begin production in Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam, Germany in the summer of 2016, and to be shot in other parts of Europe. The casting agency Han & Oldenburg also reported a shoot in Brixen and South Tyrol, located in northern Italy, which occurred from July 11, 2016 through August 19, 2016.[2] During the month of August 2016, reports emerged that some scenes of the film were shot in the small Italian mountain village of Sappada.[3] Post-productionActor Franz Rogowski stated in an interview in March 2019 that no one knows how the film would eventually turn out, or when it will be released, considering that A Hidden Life has been in post-production for more than two years at that point. Rogowski pointed out that Malick is "a director who creates spaces rather than produces scenes; his editing style is like that."[4] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.indiewire.com/2017/04/terrence-malick-radegund-screenplay-style-1201802506/|title=Terrence Malick Vows to Return to More Structured Filmmaking: ‘I’m Backing Away From That Style Now’|last=Sharf|first=Zack|website=IndieWire|date=6 April 2017|accessdate=27 June 2017}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://thefilmstage.com/news/terrence-malick-announces-next-film-radegund-based-on-the-life-of-franz-jagerstatter/|title=Terrence Malick Announces Next Film ‘Radegund,’ Based on the Life of Franz Jägerstätter|publisher=The Film Stage|accessdate=23 June 2016}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://thefilmstage.com/trailer/trailer-for-the-thin-red-line-restoration-arrives-as-terrence-malick-commences-radegund-shoot/|title=Trailer For ‘The Thin Red Line’ Restoration Arrives as Terrence Malick Commences ‘Radegund’ Shoot|publisher=The Film Stage|date=11 August 2016|language=en-US|accessdate=14 August 2016}} 4. ^{{cite web|last=Elfadl|first=Murtada|title=Franz Rogowski on Playing a Ghost in ‘Transit,’ Disorienting the Audience, and Terrence Malick’s ‘Radegund’|url=https://thefilmstage.com/features/franz-rogowski-on-playing-a-ghost-in-transit-disorienting-the-audience-and-terrence-malicks-radegund/|website=The Film Stage|publisher=The Film Stage|accessdate=12 March 2019|date=9 March 2019}} External links
