}}Aidha is a non-governmental organisation in Singapore. It provides financial literacy and self-development training programmes for foreign domestic workers and lower-income women, and empower them to transform their lives through sustainable wealth creation.[1][2][3][4]

Aidha is the only NGO in Singapore that specialises in teaching domestic workers how to manage their money and start businesses.

History

In 2001, social activist Melissa Kwee and writer Audrey Chin started a financial literacy programme to help the domestic workers in Singapore to break out of their poverty cycle. The non-governmental organization UN Women Singapore was engaged to run the programme until it was stopped in 2005 due to reorganization. To continue the programme, some members of the UN Women Singapore decided to set up Aidha in 2006.[1]

Aidha is a Sanskrit word which means "That to which we aspire".

Training programmes

The following courses are provided to help domestic workers develop savings habits and skills needed to start a sustainable business for their families.

  • Financial literacy course (such as Money management)
  • Computer literacy course
  • Leadership course
  • Entrepreneurial skills course
