Aisha Toussaint (born 5 August 1995) is an Seychellois actress based in Scotland. She is best known{{cn|date=March 2019}} as Jules Belmont in River City and the second presenter of CBBC's Raven since 2017.

Early life

Toussaint was born on 5 August[1] 1995[2] in the Seychelles and is the middle child of five, having four brothers.[3] She moved to Scotland when she was six,[2] and attended St Peter the Apostle High School.[4] Her mother was a dialysis nurse.[3]

Career

Toussaint's first professional acting job was as Jules Belmont in the BBC Scotland soap opera River City, a job she landed while still studying for her Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the New College Lanarkshire,[2] though prior to this she had played a "Spy in Training" in M.I. High in 2012 and "Poppy's Friend" in Pramface in 2014.[5] Episodes featuring Belmont began airing on 28 June 2016.[6]

On 27 June 2017 it was announced that the BBC Scotland children's fantasy adventure show Raven had been revived with Toussaint at the helm,[7] although call-out for contestants had been much earlier than this under the guise of "children’s fantasy gameshow [sic]". According to the series producer Nick Gunaydin, she was hired after she came to the audition with a "huge piece of wood she'd found in a wood", which she had used as a staff.[8] Toussaint replaced then-fellow River City cast member James Mackenzie; in a BBC Press Office interview to promote her first series, she mentioned that she had met him on set, and had forgotten to mention that she had recognised him from Raven. Nonetheless, when he heard she was succeeding him, he messaged her to say congratulations.[2] As of November 2017, two series have been recorded.[8]

Personal life

Toussaint lives in Glasgow,[2] and has been described as a "young Bankie" by Clydebank Live.[4]
