Aishbagh railway station used to serve the 130 years old metre gauge railway network, and used to act as a terminal for it. On 15 May 2016 the gauge conversion process started[2] in which the Aishbagh – Sitapur section is being upgraded to broad gauge.

Before the gauge conversion Aishbagh Junction had five platforms. Their number will be increased to seven after completion of the gauge conversion. After GC process this station will be originating/terminating point for many north, northwest and northeast bound trains. Many Delhi and Izzat nagar bound trains will start from here. Station will also be provided with a loop line to bypass the trains which are not having a stop here. Other than this Transport nagar, Gomti nagar, Utrahtia Jn and Daliganj Jn will be developed as satellite stations to pick the traffic pressure off charbagh, Lucknow junction and Badshah nagar railway stations.

Right now Charbagh, Lucknow Junction, Daliganj Junction, Gomti nagar and Badshah Nagar - Railway Stations are originating/terminating railway stations in lucknow.[3]

Aishbagh Junction terminal

This project was started on 1 May along with gauge conversion from meter to broad from very same station to Pilibhit. In this project railway will develop this station as terminal for many northwest and north bound trains(from Delhi, sitapur, pilibhit, tanakpur, shahjahanpur, behraich, mailani, lalkuan, kathgodam. Seven platforms are under construction with a washing pit line and loop line along with an entirely new large station building and dual entrance.

Gauge conversion

This project started on 15 May 2016. Under this project meter gauge lines from Lucknow to Tanakpur will be converted to broad gauge under three phases, where first phase (Aishbagh to Sitapur) will be finished by December 2018.The first phase (Aishbagh to Sitapur) will be in operation from 9 January 2019.The train will be inaugrated by State Railway Minister Mr Manoj Sinha from Sitapur Junction-Aishbagh Junction.

Aishbagh–Manaknagar bypass

under this project a one kilometer rail track will be constructed from Aishbagh station to Manak nagar through RDSO area of the city so that long distance trains for Gorakhpur will directly pass from Aishbagh to Manak nagar without going to Lucknow Junction and thus avoiding the time loss in engine reversal.

Circular train

Honorable Home Minister Rajnath Singh Ji has announced that a local train just like that of Mumbai will run on Aishbagh-lucknow city-daliganj- badshahnagar- gomtinagar- malhour-juggaur-malhour-dilkusha –gwarigaon- Charbagh route to ease the pressure on the roads . The reports are already submitted and date for starting the project will soon be announced.
