She is the founder and CEO of Frontier Markets and the President of Frontier Innovations Foundation. Early life and educationShah grew up in an Indian community in New York City, getting a B.A. degree in International Relations from Tufts University. She was an American India Foundation Fellow in 2006. She, then, started working in various areas of government, research, and mediation. She moved to India after college to work in microfinance achieving grand outcomes in health care, energy, social performance management, and other sector innovations. CareerShah has previously worked with SKS Microfinance, and Ujjivan Financial Services in India and has worked on numerous development projects in 7 states in India. She has also consulted with the World Bank about microfinance in South Asia and Latin America. She served on the Committee of the Social Performance Task Force. She was a Clinton Service Corp, Echoing Green, and Cordes Fellow.[1] Frontier MarketsShe founded Frontier Markets (FM) in 2011 as a last-mile distribution company with a mission to create “Saral Jeevan” or an “Easy Life”for rural customers and low income households (focusing on clean energy, agriculture, health, and water sanitation) by providing them access to quality clean energy solutions through their network of digitized rural entrepreneurs, with women at the center of the value chain. Her company works with microfinance institutions and locally trained field staff to educate, relate, and reach households providing them access to high social impact and affordable products, and customer service. They are working to create clean energy, affordable and relevant products for rural markets, like solar lighting and smokeless stoves.[2][3] FM’s mission is to provide over 10 million products to 30 million households in India and become a global leader in rural distribution and products for low-income households. FM also trains women (known as "Solar Sahelis") to market, sell, and service renewable energy products in rural Rajasthan.
