He is a presenter of the Kurd Idol talent competition. He was awarded 'Male actor of the year 2016' by the Turkish Theatre Critics Association in 2016.[1] Ciwan started acting on the stage in 2005 before moving to Istanbul in 2009.[2][3] He currently lives in Berlin, Germany, where he moved in 2016.[3] The city of Batman is known as a location for the arts and theatre, but Ciwan mostly performed with theatre companies producing plays in Turkish. When he came to Istanbul he improved his Kurdish arts vocabulary and began reading Kurdish literature and performing in Kurdish plays.[2] Despite some liberalisation, Ciwan continued to experience prejudice for being Kurdish. He told one interviewer that a waiter at a cafe reported him and his friends to the police because they had been speaking Kurdish.[4] By 2012, the cultural openness to Kurdish arts started to recede. Ciwan told an interviewer that the Turkish government "stopped funding us and the government began a campaign to close theaters in Kurdish cities like Batman, which left the artists and people who worked in theater jobless and out of support.
