Situated on the northern Manbij Plain, just {{convert|1.5|km|mi}} south of the border to the Turkish province of Gaziantep, the village is located about {{cvt|11|km|mi}} to the southwest of Jarabulus and the river Euphrates. With 179 inhabitants, as per the 2004 census, al-Bir Tahtani administratively belongs to Nahiya Jarabulus within Jarabulus District. Nearby localities include al-Haluwaniyah {{cvt|2.5|km|mi}} to the northeast, and al-Bir Fawqani {{cvt|2|km|mi}} to the southwest.
