Aldford House was a grand mansion built on London's Park Lane in 1894–97 for the diamond magnate, Alfred Beit.[2] The architects were the Scottish partnership of Eustace Balfour and Hugh Thackeray Turner.[2] Its style was somewhat Jacobean but it was not well-received and was demolished in 1929.[ A block of flats with the same name was then constructed on the site by the architectural partnership of George Val Myer and F. J. Watson-Hart, advised by Edwin Lutyens.[5]]References1. ^1 {{citation |title=The London Compendium |author=Ed Glinert |publisher=Penguin |year=2012 |isbn=9780718192044 |page=359 |chapter=Aldford House}} 2. ^1 2 {{citation |title=The Lost Mansions of Mayfair |page=105,138 |author=Oliver Bradbury |year=2008 |publisher=Historical Publications |isbn=9781905286232}} 3. ^1 {{citation |chapter=Park Lane |title=Survey of London |volume=Vol. 40, the Grosvenor Estate in Mayfair, Part 2 (The Buildings) |editor=F H W Sheppard |location=London |year=1980 |pages=264–289 |url=http://www.british-history.ac.uk/survey-london/vol40/pt2/pp264-289}}
