Alec Cowan is bilingual in English and French. CareerIn 2017, Alec Cowan had seven "top ten" placings in UCI races including a Time Trial win in Stage 3a at the Tour de Beauce. Alec placed 12th in the U23 Individual Time Trial at the 2016 UCI World Road Cycling Championships in Doha, Qatar. This road world's ITT performance was the best result for a U23 Canadian since David Veilleux in 2009. Alec placed sixth in the 2016 Canadian Elite Time Trial in a field that included Hugo Houle, Svein Tuft, Mike Woods, Rob Britton and Ryan Roth. In May 2016, Alec was awarded the Most Aggressive Rider Jersey, Stage 2 -Tour of Berlin UCI 2.2 U23 and Best Young Rider U23 Jersey, Stage 2 – Tour de la Manche.[2] In 2015 and 2016, Alec rode for Team Race Clean racing under the banner of Cycling Canada's anti-doping program.[3] The program was launched in 2015 by Cycling Canada as Team NextGen. The team is built off of a select roster of Canadian U23 riders who train and compete together throughout the year. Canada is following in the footsteps of Great Britain, Australia, Denmark, New Zealand,Switzerland. Cycling Canada's high-performance director, Jacques Laundry said, "The objective stays the same: (Team Race Clean) to develop our track endurance program to be competitive at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
