Her family emigrated to Canada in 1910.[3] She studied at Ontario College of Art in Toronto (then the Ontario College of Art).[4] There she studied with several members of the Group of Seven; Arthur Lismer, Fred Varley, and A. Y. Jackson.[1] Aked lived in Sarasota, Florida during the winter months from the year From 1929 to 1944. She studied art at the Ringling School of Art.[1] Many of her paintings featured Florida landscapes and Floridians.
