His love of the violin is rooted in his family's history. His grandfather was Dante Regazzoni,[1] one of the greatest violin makers of the 20th century. Regazzoni's workshop is now part of the Museum of Musical Instruments (MUSA) of Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Parco della Musica Auditorium, Rome.[2] Watching his grandfather as he made his stringed instrument in his secluded workshop in a mountain village in the Alps sparked Alessio Bidoli's love affair with the violin, which he began playing at the age of seven. Today he plays one of his grandfather's violins and another violin made by Stefano Scarampella in 1902. Bidoli's soloist debut took place at Teatro Signorelli, Cortona, at the age of seventeen. In 2005 he featured among the winners of the National String Players Competition held in Vittorio Veneto, Italy. Following his graduation with honours from Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Milan in 2006, he trained at various music schools, including: Haute Ecole de Musique au Conservatoire de Lausanne, Switzerland, Mozarteum Salzburg with Pierre Amoyal, Accademia Musicale Chigiana of Siena with Salvatore Accardo, and Imola International Academy with Pavel Berman and Oleksandr Semchuk. In 2007 he played with Camerata de Lausanne led by Pierre Amoyal and performed in several European cities including Martigny (Pierre Gianadda Foundation), Milan (Società dei Concerti) and Marseilles (Festival de Musique à Saint-Victor). In April 2009 he developed quadriplegia arising from Guillain-Barré Syndrome.[3] He successfully recovered and, contrary to the prognosis, two years later went back to playing the violin. In 2015 he featured with Italian art critic Vittorio Sgarbi.[4] As soloist he has performed in acclaimed concert seasons including MITO Settembre Musica, Società dei Concerti (Sala Verdi), Milan, Fondazione Musica Insieme in Bologna, Festival della Cultura in Bergamo in collaboration with Sony Classical Italy. His recitals have led him to various European venues (in Germany,[5] the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Lettonia), Russia and Thailand. He has recorded a CD with pianist Stefania Mormone for Amadeus[6] and four CDs as a duo with Bruno Canino. For Sony Classical: "Verdi Fantasias" with paraphrases by Camillo Sivori and Antonio Bazzini[7] and "Italian Soul – Anima Italiana", a collection of works by Malipiero Petrassi and Alfredo Casella, most of which were previously unrecorded.[8] For Warner Classics: a CD album with music by Stravinskìj, Prokofiev, Ravel, and Poulenc[9] and, in October 2018, the complete works of Saint-Saëns violin and piano works, including a first recording of his youthful E flat major sonata (R103).[10] He has appeared as guest artist in radio broadcasts on Radio France, NDR Kultur, Radio Svizzera Italiana, RAI Radio 3, Radio Vaticana, Radio Classica, and Radio Popolare. He teaches violin at Conservatorio "Niccolò Piccinni" in Bari. Recordings
