}}Alexander James Stewart {{postnominals|country=GBR|MSP}} is a Scottish Conservative Party politician who has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Mid Scotland and Fife region since in the election in May 2016.[1]

In 2016, he stood for the Scottish Parliament as the Conservative candidate for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane where he came third,[2] then was elected from the regional list.

In 2015, he stood in the UK general election as the Conservative candidate for Perth and North Perthshire, coming second to the Scottish National Party (SNP)'s Pete Wishart, who was returned with a near 10,000 majority.[3]

He was also councillor for Perth City South for 18 years from 1999 to 2017 and has been an elected member since 1999.[4]

Formerly the Scottish Conservative spokesperson for International Development and External Affairs in the Scottish Parliament; Alexander was promoted to Spokesperson and Shadow Minister for Local Government in June 2017 by Scottish Conservative Party Leader, Ruth Davidson MSP.

He campaigned for Brexit in the UK's 2016 EU Referendum.[5]
