Alexey Sokolov graduated from St. Petersburg State Transport University. He is a professor at the Russian University of Transport (MIIT) and possesses a doctoral degree in engineering sciences. He is a leading scientist in railcar building and heavy haul railway technologies in the CIS.^[1]^[2]

2011-2013 Deputy Chairman of the Associated Board of Studies at JSC Russian Railways.^[3]
2013-2015 Deputy CEO, Head of the Planning and Design Office at the Railway Research Institute JSC “VNIIZhT”.^[4]
Since 2016 until now - first Deputy CEO for Strategy and Product of United Wagon Company.
Since 2016 until now: Chairman of the Board of All-Union Research and Development Centre for Transportation Technology.
