He played in the Football League for Walsall and Nottingham Forest, and in the Southern League for Thames Ironworks, Queens Park Rangers and Watford.[2] Hitch joined Second Division club Walsall in 1897 and made two appearances.[3] In 1898, he made six appearances for Thames Ironworks, the club that would later be reformed as West Ham United.[4] He joined Queens Park Rangers in 1899 for the club's initial season in the Southern League First Division.[3] He spent a season at First Division Nottingham Forest in 1901–02, before returning to QPR to captain the team. He ended his career at Watford, where he was also appointed captain.[5] Hitch was chosen to play in a 'South vs North' trial match for England in February 1901.[3][5] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.westhamstats.info/westham.php?west=2&ham=320&united=Alf_Hitch| title=Alf Hitch| website=westhamstats.info|accessdate=17 February 2018}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Hitch, Alf}}{{England-footy-midfielder-1870s-stub}}2. ^{{cite book| first=Michael| last=Joyce| title=Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939| year=2012| orig-year=2002| publisher=SoccerData| location=Nottingham| isbn=978-1-905891-61-0| page=139}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite book | title=Iron in the Blood | publisher=Soccerdata | last=Powles| first=John | year=2005 | location=Nottingham | isbn=1 899468 22 6| url=http://www.soccer.mistral.co.uk/books/iron.htm| pages=66-67}} 4. ^{{cite book |last=Hogg |first=Tony |title=Who's Who of West Ham United |year=2005 |publisher=Profile Sports Media| isbn=1 903135 50 8 |page=99}} 5. ^1 {{Cite web | title = Alfred HITCH | work = watfordfcarchive.com | accessdate = 17 February 2018 | url = http://www.watfordfcarchive.com/players/}} 14 : 1876 births|1962 deaths|Sportspeople from Walsall|English footballers|Association football midfielders|Walsall F.C. players|Telford United F.C. players|Thames Ironworks F.C. players|Grays United F.C. players|Queens Park Rangers F.C. players|Nottingham Forest F.C. players|Watford F.C. players|English Football League players|Southern Football League players |
