Di Lelio invented "fettuccine al triplo burro"[3] (later named "fettuccine all'Alfredo" or "fettuccine Alfredo") in 1907 or 1908, while running an oil and wine shop, in an effort to entice his wife, Ines, to eat after giving birth to their first child Armando. Alfredo added extra butter or "triplo burro” to the fettuccine when mixing it together for her.[4][5][6] In 1914, Di Lelio converted the oil and wine shop into the restaurant, then called "Alfredo", on the via della Scrofa in central Rome.[7] In 1943, Di Lelio sold the restaurant to the family of the current owners. In 1950 Alfredo Di Lelio decided to reopen with his son Armando his restaurant in Piazza Augusto Imperatore n.30 "Il Vero Alfredo" (“Alfredo di Roma”), that is always operational, managed by Alfredo Di Lelio's family.
